Focus on Fiber Arts: Studio 59’s tranquility; In Sheep’s Clothing hosting Easter Basket Contest
This week I am totally off topic, only because I spent such an enchanting evening at Studio 59, that I need to share.
It’s always refreshing, whenever I get the chance, to immerse myself in someone else’s form of creative expression. And last Saturday night at Studio 59, I did just that.
Tango Fantasy was a series of solo piano pieces performed by studio owner Timothy Wallace. Everything about Studio 59 is unique, from the fact that it is housed in what was once an old church, to the worship area that is now the music salon, with Wallace’s piano gracing the center of the room. That room is filled with numerous intimate seating arrangements, and a great variety of antique lights that gave a low shadowy light.
The rest of the evening was an absolute pleasure. Wallace kept the evening light with bits of history of Tango music interspersed with his renditions of Bizet, Manuel de Falla, Debussy, and even his original piece, Tango in D.
Intermission was a chance to enjoy some lovely refreshments, and then it was on to more music.
For some reason, I find that if I close my eyes while music is preformed, I hear it so much better. Perhaps it’s because I can eliminate all the visual distractions.
So there I was, with the lights down low, my eyes closed, just letting myself become part of the music. After a busy day, that evening was just what I needed to wind down. This performance was the last one for the winter season, which only makes me look forward to the spring offerings of Studio 59.
